THE Badminton Association of Zimbabwe has embarked on a massive drive to promote the sport countrywide. The Badminton Association of Zimbabwe is looking forward to shake off the drastic effects of COVID-19, with a tournament on the cards in Harare this weekend.Largely regarded as an elite sport, the Badminton governing body is seeking to demystify the myth.“The whole idea is to revive badminton in the country. We want to bring the sport back on the limelight and make Zimbabwe known on the global arena for badminton.
The effects of COVID-19 were and are there for all to see and our game has not be spared either. It took a drastic fall for the past two or so years and now is the time to come back and spread the game across all board. This sport is seen as elitist but we want to remove that notion and provide equal opportunities for everyone to participate and enjoy the game. The country has vast talent and we understand somewhere out there are players waiting for a perfect time and opportunity to play the game,” said Trinity Chipundo, the Badminton Association of Zimbabwe Athletes Committee Member. The Badminton Association of Zimbabwe has also engaged several schools to introduce the sport starting with the outdoor Shuttle Time, which has worked as a tool to give hope and belief in a difficult environment.Just like tennis, badminton is played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net and can be played as singles or doubles. *Zbcnews**Zim Sun News Updates*
